My bedroom

Cari amici Beginner e non, nel post precedente, The rooms of the house, abbiamo imparato il nome di alcune stanze della casa in inglese: living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom e bedroom.
Oggi ci soffermeremo proprio su quest’ultima stanza, the bedroom, e con il nostro nuovo amico Dan impareremo a descrivere la nostra camera da letto, grazie a questo video realizzato per il corso Your Space della Cambridge University Press.

Hi there, I’m Dan.
It’s Saturday morning and this is my video diary. Ooops!
Hello again, I’m Dan! But you know that.
This is my room.
It isn’t very big but it’s cool.
All my stuff’s in here.
There’s my computer.
And there are a lot of DVDs and posters.
This is my electric guitar, I love it!
There are clothes on the bed and under the desk.
And this is my favourite T-shirt.

Vediamo, intanto, quali mobili e oggetti possiamo trovare in una camera da letto:

bed = letto
desk = scrivania
computer = computer
DVD = DVD
poster = poster
clothes = vestiti
stuff = cose, roba

e, se si è degli appassionati di musica, magari anche una:
electric guitar = chitarra elettrica

Quando descriviamo la nostra o una qualsiasi altra stanza non possiamo non usare THERE IS / THERE ARE:

THERE IS = c’è
THERE ARE = ci sono

Es. there’s my computer      c’è il mio computer
Es.  there are a lot of DVDs  ci sono molti DVD

Come abbiamo avuto modo di vedere nel post Prepositions of place – Are you afraid of ghosts?, per la forma negativa e interrogativa e le risposte brevi con THERE IS /THERE ARE vale quanto abbiamo detto per il verbo To BE, ossia:

forma negativa:
THERE IS NOT = THERE ISN’T
THERE ARE NOT = THERE AREN’T

Es. There isn’t a guitar on the desk     non c’è una chitarra sulla scrivania
Es. There aren’t DVDs on the bed       non ci sono DVD sul letto

forma interrogativa:
IS THERE?
ARE THERE?

Es. Is there an electric guitar in the room?  c’è una chitarra elettrica nella stanza?
Es. Are there books on the bed?               ci sono libri sul letto?

risposte brevi:
YES, THERE IS / NO, THERE ISN’T
YES, THERE ARE / NO, THERE AREN’T

Es. Is there an electric guitar in the room? Yes, there is
Es. Are there books on the bed? No, there aren’t.

Se volete fare un po’ di pratica con THERE IS / THERE ARE, ecco qua degli esercizi online che ho scelto per voi:

THERE IS – THERE ARE – forma affermativa
THERE IS – THERE ARE – forma interrogativa
THERE IS – THERE ARE – domande e risposte

Per rendere la nostra descrizione più interessante, è sempre bene usare degli aggettivi. Per esempio, della sua camera Dan ci dice che:

– it isn’t very big        non è molto grande
– but it’s cool            ma è fantastica

Altri aggettivi che potremmo usare sono:

tidy = ordinata
untidy = disordinata

Ecco, in questo caso direi proprio che:
– Dan’s room is untidy           la stanza di Dan è disordinata

infatti:
there are clothes on the bed   ci sono vestiti sul letto
and under the desk                e sotto la scrivania

A proposito:
ON = sopra, su
UNDER = sotto

E per finire, questo post ci dà l’occasione di vedere i giorni della settimana in inglese, the Days of the Week – aprite i link e scegliete “UK” per ascoltare la pronuncia British English:

A questo punto, come sempre, non ci resta che mettere tutto in pratica e descrivere la nostra di camera da letto. Comincio io?

My bedroom is not very big. There is a bed, there are two bedside tables (comodini), a wardrobe (armadio), an armchair (poltrona) and two cupboards (armadietti).
There are lamps (lampade) on the bedside tables and on the cupboards (I love lamps!), books everywhere (dappertutto) and clothes on the armchair. My bedroom is not very tidy ☹
