Summer office wear no nos
Ohimè, il caldo è arrivato e, come ogni anno, mi ci vorrà più di qualche settimana per abituarmi a queste temperature tropicali. Il problema maggiore sarà riuscire a sopravvivere alla calura negli uffici, perché non è che ci si possa presentare a un incontro di lavoro indossando infradito e caftano. Magari!
A proposito di caldo e di abbigliamento in ufficio, in questo simpaticissimo servizio di BBC Capital, la consulente di immagine Karen Smyth ci rivela quali sono secondo lei le 5 cose assolutamente da non indossare sul posto di lavoro in estate.
Prima di scoprirle insieme, vediamo alcuni aggettivi che vengono usati nel video per descrivere i capi di abbigliamento incriminati:
too relaxed = too informal and comfortable
not appropriate = not right or suited for some purpose or situation
vile = very bad or unpleasant
ghastly = very shocking or horrible
too revealing = showing parts of the body that are usually covered
not suitable = not appropriate or fit to a purpose or an occasion
appalling = shocking
sleazy = not decent or socially respectable
unacceptable = too bad to be accepted, approved of
E vediamo anche gli aggettivi usati per descrivere chi li indossa:
confident = having a feeling or belief that you can do something well or succeed at something, having confidence
considerate = having or showing regard for the needs or feelings of others
comfortable = free from stress or anxiety, at ease
rude = not having or showing respect for the rights and feelings of other people, not polite.

Summer has arrived and with the heat inevitably comes short shorts, flip-flops and low-cut T-shirts. While these things are likely fine for the beach, it’s a different story in the office: no-one wants to smell a colleague’s feet, get an eyeful of chest hair or witness a bum peeking out from teeny shorts.
Image consultant Karen Smyth took to the streets of London – trendy Shoreditch and the City of London – and quizzed workers on what’s appropriate, and what’s best left at the beach… or at a strip club.
“These are my top five summer office wear no-nos:
N.1: flip flops
They are too relaxed for the office for both men and women, people will think you don’t take your job seriously. And if you’ve got smelly feet, your colleagues won’t thank you.
“It’s like wearing slippers in winter, isn’t it, it’s not really appropriate”
“The sound of the clip clop, flip flop going through the office is not very good as well”
Ditch the flip flops?
“No one wants flip flops in an office, save them for the beach”
N.2: Low v-necks for men
A big flash of chest hair? Not appropriate for work, maybe for the bar
“I’d go with vile, I think it’s pretty ghastly”
“Hair on display I just think it’s an absolute no-no, and the fact that you can see nipples, I’d just say no”
“If people want to wear this kind of thing, they are completed entitled to wear it, especially in creative offices”
“You either have to be really confident but at the same time it’s like, it’s an office, it’s a workplace. Be more considerate”
N.3: Too short shorts
“Possibly too revealing”
“Just not suitable for work at all”
“I don’t know, maybe if you worked in a strip club”
“Someone wore some the other day and they got told off, we got reminded about dress code in case of meetings”
No one wants to see that much upper-thigh, go for a longer, more tailored short.
N.4: anything strapless
If your job is vigorous or you’ve got to reach for the top shelf, you might show your colleagues more than you had anticipated.
“I would say it’s appalling”
“Just not appropriate at all. Too much flesh”
“I don’t think I would feel comfortable, I would feel like everyone is staring at me. Maybe it’s too sleazy.”
N.5: sunglasses (inside)
If you wear sunglasses inside, it says you’ve got something to hide.
“I think it’s really rude actually when you are in an office environment”
“That’s unacceptable, you can’t do that”
“There’s a lot of red eyes where I work because of people going out and partying, so, personally, I’d prefer to wear sunglasses”
So there you have it. When the temperatures are rising don’t be tempted to wear your beachwear to the office.”
Quindi, se shorts e canotte sono fuori discussione nell’ambiente lavorativo, l’alternativa è o indossare capi ampi e tessuti freschi, nella speranza che ciò sia sufficiente per riuscire a resistere all’afa in ufficio, o rimandare incontri e riunioni direttamente a fine settembre.
