Home fitness – Quick warm up routine

This wam-up routine is quick and effective, ideal to prepare our full body for any sort of exercise, so let’s get going!

“We are going to start by warming up our neck with some head rolls. Gently roll your head from side to side.
Now turn your head from right to left – 8 repeats.
On to head tilts: tilt your head to one side, touching your shoulder with your ear, and to the other – 12 repeats. Really feel the stretch down either side of your neck.
Now it’s time to warm up our shoulders with some shoulder rolls. Roll your shoulders back – 4 repeats, and then forward – 4 repeats.
Once your neck and shoulders are nice and warm, stretch your arms and body all the way up to the ceiling – 2 repeats.
Now it’s time to warm up our back. Stretch your ribs side to side – 8 repeats, and then forward and back – 8 repeats.
On to some quad stretches: standing on one leg, knee slightly bent, raise the opposite heel up toward your buttocks, grasp hold of your foot, with one hand, inhale and slowly pull your heel to your buttock while gradually pushing your pelvis forward and keeping both knees together – 4 counts. To keep your balance, you may want to hold onto a secure object.
And down to a calf stretch: stand with your feet shoulder width apart, take a leg back with your foot pointing forward and your heel flat – 4 counts.
Repeat with the other leg.
Now march it out to get your whole body moving and your heart pumping – 16 repeats.
And on to some jumps from side to side – 16 repeats.”

Before starting our full work-out, let’s take a look at some exercise-related terms used in the video:

(to) roll = (to) move or cause to move in a circular manner
(to) rotate = (to) move or turn in a circle
(to) stretch = (to) to extend the body or one of its parts
(to) tilt = (to) cause to have an inclination

buttocks = the two soft parts of the body that a person sits on
calf = the muscular back part of the leg below the knee
heel = the rounded posterior part of the human foot under and behind the ankle
pelvis = the large bony frame near the base of the spine to which the leg bones and spine are joined
quad = quadriceps muscle
rib = any of the 24 curved elastic arches of bone that together form the chest wall in a person
roll = a rolling movement
stretch = the act of stretching the body or one of its parts

Bye for now, j
