English on the street – Present Continuous
Abbiamo già incontrato questo tempo verbale, per esempio, nel post What are you doing? – Present Continuous part 1. “English on the street, where Sian and Clare take you out in the UK to help you learn English. Sian: Hi, I’m Sian. Clare: What are you doing now? Clare: What are you doing now? Clare: And what are you doing now? Clare: Wow, there are so many different things that people are doing here in London.” Come ci ricorda Sian, la costruzione del Present Continuous è: Clare: And what are you doing now? In questo caso, potremmo trovare espressioni di tempo tipo: Clare: What are you doing here in London? “Sian: Now, it’s time for our quiz. Watch these clips of Clare and me. What are we doing? What is Sian doing? Sian: Now, question 2: what’s happening in this clip? What is Clare doing? Sian: And the answer is: Clare is taking a selfie. She loves selfies. What is Clare doing? Clare: And the answer is: I’m making a phone call. Sian: Well done if you’ve got those correct. Now, it’s getting cold. Shall we go inside? Come? Comincio io. In this period I am spending most of the time at home. I am working mainly from my kitchen, where I have a nice, big, round table, and I am seeing my family and friends only on Skype or WhatsApp. In fact, I am not going out much, only once a week to go to the supermarket to buy some food. In this period I am also reading a very interesting book: it’s a crime novel!
In this episode they’ll meet people out and about in London and help you use the Present Continuous.
Clare: Hi, I’m Clare.
Sian: And we’re here in central London having a break, having a drink. It’s so busy here! What is everyone doing?
Clare: Yeah, that’s exactly what I wondered.
Girl 1: We’re visiting Covent Garden.
Man 1: I’m shopping at the moment.
Girl 2: I’m keeping out of the rain!
Subject + BE verb + verb+ING ossia SOGG + verbo to BE + FORMA ING del VERBO
Man 2: I’m currently drinking a coffee with my friend Lidia.
now = adesso
at the moment = al momento
currently = attualmente
Girl 3: I’m studying English.
today = oggi
this week, this month, period, etc.= questa settimana, questo mese, questo periodo, ecc.
these days = in questi giorni
Es: I’m shopping at the moment I am not (I’m not) shopping at the moment
Es: I’m shopping at the moment Am I shopping at the moment?
……keep ⇒ keeping: I’m keeping out of the rain
……study ⇒ studying: I’m studying English
Es. have ⇒ having: “We’re here in central London having a break”
Es. shop ⇒ shopping: I’m shopping at the moment
Es. die ⇒ dying: It’s too hot, the flowers are dying.
Clare: And the answer is: Sian is making a cup of tea.
And ready, question 3: what’s happening in this clip?
Clare: Yeah.”
